Off-Grid Farm Living - Central Victoria
River Gardens Axedale is completely off-grid.
We generate our own power from a bank of solar panels on the roof. We store that power in a battery bank for night use. We do have a back-up generator for emergencies.
Drinking, cooking and shower water is collected from the roof and stored in three 33,000 litre tanks.
The washing machine and toilets use clean dam water.
An electric split system air conditioner heats and cools the house. Heating is supplemented by a wheat heater on colder nights.
Gardens are watered from the river and dams using a stand-alone solar powered floating Mono pump.

Nature Reviews - Fauna - Flora - Farm Animals
Sometimes life on a farm isn't easy and other times it's a delight to see the wonders of nature. Farmers have a couple of sayings that sum up their daily routines: 'Where you've got livestock you've got dead stock.' 'On a farm you are either trying to keep it alive or trying to kill it.'
Sounds harsh but makes sense. Almost daily you are trying to kill weeds and vermin whilst hoping for rain and nurturing stock.
